Ponds & Spillways Committee
The mission of the POA Ponds and Spillway Committee is to oversee the maintenance of the several ponds throughout Point Aquarius.
Description and Activities
We have several ponds in Point Aquarius. They not only add beauty to our community, but also provide important channels to divert and drain stormwater into the lake.
Committee oversight and management includes aquatic management, pump and fountain maintenance and repairs, as well as erosion control and spillway repairs.
Recent & Current Projects
- Spillway repairs at the marina have been completed
It has been expanded to increase capacity per engineering recommendations. It is now capable of fully handling a 2-year storm, which the old spillway could not. While there may be cases when it overflows during very heavy rains, these events should be greatly reduced.
The spillway is much stronger. It was built with 3500 psi concrete with rebar (similar to a driveway) and will be capable to withstand a very heavy flow of water.
It is no longer sitting on top of the bulkhead. There is a concrete 12” wide footing supporting the weight of the concrete.
- Culvert repairs under Gemini Road – mostly completed, stay tuned for an update
